I’m back from the great American Roadtrip and barely made it back before they closed the airports because of Irene!
Anyway, a parcel was waiting when I got back and the results speak for themselves…

Please excuse my ignorance, what is the purpose of the release valves ?
Hi Jon, apologies, didn’t see your question until now. In a similar way to a snifting valve, it equalizes the pressure in the cylinders ‘In’ and ‘Out’ ports, preventing the loco from hydraulicing when the regulator is closed. That is how I had it explained to me when I asked the same question. Cheers, Chris
